Hide n’ Seek is the song for which Sacred Machines’ 1988/2020 album is named. It should be noted that the album was initially eponymously named “Borderline,” but was changed, in 2020, to “Hide n’ Seek.” Hide n’ Seek is a song about trying to have a relationship with a person who is intentionally cryptic, duplicitous, or unavailable. The song was intended as part of the first album’s exploration into human relationships.
HIDE n’ SEEK
(Carruthers/RE-VO) (1988)
On the Monday, you were there.
I could talk to you. Everything you said
I understood to be true.
But Friday comes and you’re gone.
What we said comes undone.
I thought we in trust, in trust.
I was wrong, oh, so wrong.
It’s like playing hide and seek when we were young.
It’s like playing hide and seek all day long.
Where to find you. I know every place that you run to.
Everywhere you go, I been there too, I been there, been there.
But when I call your name,
You still wanna play the game.
I thought we in trust, in trust.
You can’t be tamed. No, no, no.
It’s like playing hide and seek when we were young.
It’s like playing hide and seek all day long.
All day long, all night long.
You are my ride to the world.
I can’t live without you.
I’ve got nothing to hide.
Why do you?
But Friday comes and you’re gone.
What we said comes undone.
I thought we in trust, in trust.
I was wrong, oh, so wrong.
It’s like playing hide and seek when we were young.
It’s like playing hide and seek all day long.
